Gratitude

Finding gratitude in small things

Refreshed · · 1 min read · Sample reflection

Gratitude often begins with something small enough to miss: warm water, a familiar voice, a patch of sunlight across the floor. Paying attention gives these ordinary gifts room to become meaningful.

Giving thanks does not require pretending that everything is easy. The Psalms make room for both praise and lament. We can acknowledge what hurts and still welcome a moment of goodness when it comes.

At the end of today, write down three specific things you appreciated. Try moving beyond a broad word such as “family” to a particular moment: someone waiting for you, sharing a laugh, or helping with a task.

If it feels right, turn one of those observations into an action. Send a short thank-you. Return a kindness. Care for something you have been given. Gratitude can gently shape how we treat the world around us.

For reflection: What small gift did you nearly overlook today? Bring it into your prayer, and allow yourself a moment to enjoy it without rushing toward the next thing.
