When words are hard to find

Refreshed · · 1 min read · Sample reflection

There are seasons when prayer feels natural, and seasons when every sentence seems to take effort. You may sit down with good intentions and find only silence. That experience does not put you beyond God’s care.

Romans 8:26 offers comfort for the moments when we do not know how to pray. Our relationship with God is not held together by our ability to find polished words.

Start with one honest sentence: “God, I feel tired.” “I need help with this.” “Thank you for staying near.” Leave a little space after it. You do not need to fill every pause.

You might borrow a prayer from the Psalms, write a few lines in a journal, or ask someone you trust to pray with you. These simple practices can give expression to what you are carrying.

For today, let a brief prayer be enough. Show up as you are, with what you have. God, receive the words I can say and the things I cannot yet put into words. Amen.
